About Bobpoint

Bobpoint is the new revolutionary process to determine a golfer’s aiming point for a putt.

It combines the long time legal plumb bobbing method with the newly used legal Aimpoint method.

Until now, reading a green has been truly a guess. The eye site method is the most common way but relies on many thousands of putts to get proficient and is prone to optical illusions which causes mis-reads. The Aimpoint method is currently used by many professionals but relies on constant reinforcement and training to get proficient and is usually only accurate to a whole degree such as 1 or 2 degrees.

Theory of Bobpoint

The body of a player will be slanted in relation to vertical when standing straight on a slope with the feet about 2 feet apart. Using the putter to plumb bob will show you absolute vertical. The triangle formed (red triangle below) converts the green slope angle to a distance on the green. Using geometry, the Bobpoint process automatically calculates and converts this distance to the aiming point at the hole.

Advantages of Bobpoint

1. No guessing. Bobpoint is a three step process which uses geometry to automatically change the slope degrees of the green to the distance of the aiming point from the hole.
2. No devices needed. Bobpoint is totally a process that only uses the putter which is a legal piece of equipment. It does not use any other devices that have to be carried or manipulated.
3. No calculations. All of the calculations are built into the process. You get the end result of the aiming point without trying to change slope degrees to an aiming point distance.
4. Quick reading. All three steps will only take about 10 seconds
5. No optical illusions. Since the reading does not use the eye site method, there are no optical illusions.
6. No constant reinforcement training. After initial setup and training, you can use the process the same way each time you play a round without practice. Even if you have months between rounds.
7. Ideal for beginners. Gives the beginner a very good aiming point without having to rely on thousands of putts to get proficient.
8. Better accuracy. Instead of guessing the slope of the green to a whole degree such as 1 or 2 degrees, Bobpoint gets a fractional degree of the slope such as a reading of 1¼ or ½ or 2¾ degrees of slope.
